Segway-ing into another topic...

Anybody ever do a Segway tour someplace? I want to do the DC one, mostly 'cause I want to ride a Segway. :)

I know! I assumed by now we'd have jet packs and hovercars, but we can't even stop *walking*...

Actually we've done Segway tours both in Minneapolis and Atlanta, and both were pretty fun. There is typically 15-30 minutes of test driving before the tour starts, and usually the guide presents highlights and history of the city that are interesting but of course your focus is on how fun it is to tool around and see how fast you can go.

There are three keys to the Segways, each key enabling a different speed cap to the device. I recommend you ask up front about the keys, because we found that being stuck on the slowest speed was a bit annoying on our Atlanta trip. In Mpls they started us on the slow key, then stepped us up to the middle key after the midpoint break.

Helpful info! We did the bike tour of DC which was fun, but I wanna be a geek! :D Maybe if they have one in Philly I'll show Q around my old stomping grounds...

My husband and brothers one in DC a couple years ago. They liked it a lot. They said a lot of people took photos of them--they got a lot of attention!

One thing that made their tour pretty good is that they were late (naughty!) so the tour had left without them. A second tour guide ended up taking them on their own thing. She said that with four of them, they could do more and see more than the bigger group tour would. So, given that experience, I would try to do it on a day when the tour may not be full, and attractions may not be as crowded. I think crowds and full sidewalks can really slow you down.

True dat - we did a bike tour on a Thursday evening and it was pretty easy, so I don't think a weekend would be the best idea. Thanks for the info!
