The study has long since been discredited in the scientific community, but has had a lasting impact on popular culture and attitudes towards vaccination. This step may go a long way to healing the damage it's done.

It probably won't - conspiracy theorists really don't care much for facts.

Most of the authors retracted their authorships several years ago, and was widely discredited. The Lancet's full retraction is in the wake of the UK General Medical Council’s verdict that Dr. Wakefield acted "dishonestly and irresponsibly" by violating ethical standards by preforming potentially dangerous procedures on children without the proper safeguards, and basically stripped him of his license.

I know, but at least it was newsworthy. Maybe *some* people will rethink their irresponsible attitudes.
