Political rambling

Interesting tidbit from montrealais:

"Birther" lawyer fined $20K for frivolously wasting the court's time (another news story about it here). Both links contain the actual 43-page opinion, which is quite scathing.

"The 'Birther queen' has been slapped with a five-figure fine for 'wasting the judicial resources' of the Middle District of Georgia, where she'd filed one of her numerous lawsuits demanding that President Obama prove his citizenship before deploying soldiers to Iraq and Afghanistan.

'The Court finds that counsel’s conduct was willful and not merely negligent. It demonstrates bad faith on her part. As an attorney, she is deemed to have known better. She owed a duty to follow the rules and to respect the Court. Counsel's pattern of conduct conclusively establishes that she did not mistakenly violate a provision of law. She knowingly violated Rule 11. Her response to the Court's show cause order is breathtaking in its arrogance and borders on delusional. She expresses no contrition or regret regarding her misconduct. To the contrary, she continues her baseless attacks on the Court.'"

Aw, poor little birthers. No doubt the radical right will all rally to her cause and contribute to her fine and lift her up as a martyr, but it doesn't change the fact that Obama is still the President. (Hey, at least he didn't steal it - this time it actually WAS a "mandate from the people!")

They never, ever stop. And the sad thing is, too damned many people believe their crap.

Oh god yes. I mean, the far left has its own share of kooks, but eventually they bear out and are marginalized. The right's kooks are MAINSTREAM, and it's plenty scary.

I mean, Bush stole the election, but we eventually accepted it as fact, right? :)

NO -- he stole TWO elections (don't forget Ohio in 2004).

The right's kooks have forced themselves into the mainstream -- look at Rush Limbaugh, who wants to buy an NFL team, for Sith's sake! The owner of the Indianapolis Colts has come out and said he'll vote against him.

The left may be liberal and slightly kooky at times, and we sometimes lack clear focus as a political force, but we haven't yet let the real kooks take over. The right has pandered far too long to the religious conservatives who, alas, often turn out to be the kookiest of the bunch, and now they're having trouble wresting control back from them. They made their bed, and we all get the fun of listening to them lie in it, I suppose. I just hope the pendulum doesn't swing back too far in 3 or 7 years and we see them resurge in Washington again. *shudder*

And although I'd heard some players say they wouldn't work for Limbaugh, ultimately money talks, but it's nice to hear other owners don't care for the deal, either.

Limbaugh is out of the ownership deal now.

I can't say it any better, so all I'll say is that I agree with every word in your post.

Oh, heavens no. All the other birthers will jump in and pay her fine so that she's free to continue to do God's work, don't you know...

Of course not! It's clearly the work of Activist Liberal Judges, trying to shut down the will of the Silent Majority.

Never underestimate the power of denial.

"Activist judges" when they're ruling against them, "fulfilling the will of the people" when they're ruling in their favor.
