You *are* great...my honey routinely saves turtles. I think it's why I married him. Well, one of the reasons...

Picked it up off the road and put it back into the woods.

i had one of those turtles for a while. he was on a road too. and had a minor shell injury probably from another car. took him home and fixed him up and kept him for a summer while i fattened him up and his shell healed. he was fun. then we took him out to a nice place with lots of the types of plants they eat. (actually more of a tortoise than a turtle those ones are) and let him loose in fall. i am glad he healed when he did since they have a lot of UV needs and i have that nasty UV allergy.

We found a similar turtle once living under our lawn mower. We named him Rex. He only hung out for a few days. I'd imagine turtles make very good pets.

with the three i have i would have to agree. they are relatively simple and easy pets as long as you give them two important things. heat and plenty of sunlight or a good UV lamp. with clamp lamps and such it is easy now to direct such unto them and not unto me. Also on nice days take them out into the yard for some sun. heat is as simple as an incandescent lightbulb or heating pad or moving thier "pond" towards the space heater in winter. you get them to be very hand tame if you spend a lot of time with them and let them out to play.

I wonder how the cats would like them...

my cats other than drinking the turtle water and occasionally sniffing them when they were out running around could not really care at all. However if they taunt a turtle to much they could get bitten and turtles can have a NASTY bite what with that sharp beak of theirs. but for the most part they do not really seem to have many problems to hear off. even in other houses with both cats and turtles.
