Happy new year!

Happy new year!

Welcome to 2003, and I haven't written a check wrong yet. :D

I've been considering whether or not to use people's real names when I talk about them. On the one hand, it's my own journal, and it's less confusing that way; on the other hand, it's on the internet. Yes, I know I have privacy options, but I prefer being open about stuff in general. I suppose I'll just go ahead and use real names, and hope that it doesn't come back to bite me on the butt (which things like this always seem to do). So, in that vein, the artist formerly known as The Chew Toy will now be known as Yudi. :)

OK, let's get caught up then, shall we?

12/20/02 - The queer staff group at work had a happy hour at Bourbon Street, and I took Yudi - t'was quite fun.

12/21/02 - Went to Disneyland! Went with Yudi, Daniel and his (then) boy Michael. Got my picture taken with Buzz Lightyear. Ran into my friend Joe, a fellow Disney freak. Saw Haunted Mansion Holiday and its a small world holiday. Saw it snow on Main Street for the first time. It was fun watching Yudi's face - he hadn't been to the park since he was a little kid. (I, of course, am like a little kid every time I go, but I'm a freak.)

12/22/02 - Flew home to Philly. Nice smooth on-time flight. Natalie picked me up. Good to see Mom, Dad and Bart (who seems to have lost a little weight).

12/23/02 - Did some last-minute shopping, and dropped by to see Dad at they Disney Store (all the cast members loved me and told me I needed to work there, but that would be one heck of a commute). That night was the 16th (?) annual Margibtinlin Annual Meeting and Median Christmas Party, this year held at Penni & Bob's. Natalie's eyes bugged at Yudi's picture (he's a cutie, that Yudi), Rick's son threw up all over himself, Jen laid into Carl about something that happened two years ago, Natalie regaled us with tales of her colonoscopy, we played Star Trek Uno and some board game, and we mocked anyone who wasn't there - God I love Christmas!

12/24/02 - Slept in, relaxed, wrapped presents. It snowed! I had a white Christmas! Yay!

12/25/02 - Christmas! Woke up to rain, but the further north we travelled, the more snow we got. Went to my evil sister's for about a half an hour (since her husband hates people), then went over my good sister's for dinner. Exchanged gifts, saw the kids, played video games, and finally watched Yoda kick butt. The good news is I'm still the cool uncle to my six nieces and nephews. :D My mother was thinking we might have to spend the night if the snow kept up, but it stopped during dinner so we convinced her to head home (and, of course, it started snowing once we hit the road, but disappeared the further south towards home we got). Mom and Dad got me a couple shirts, and a bunch of Disney and Sleepy stuff, and cash. My nephew got me chocolate pocky! (Mmm, nothing beats pocky...)

12/26/02 - Had the little gay chat with Mom I mentioned before, and went over to Jen's to see Phil off with Lee and Steve before he went back to Texas.

12/27/02 - The evil sister came over for me to see the kids about 5 minutes before I had to walk out the door - nice timing, sis. :( Had lunch with Giang in the city, and it was great to see him. Evidently his new boyfriend is a good cook, 'cause he's put on a few pounds (which actually looks good on him since he's always been a stick, but it amused me nonetheless). There are times when I miss him and our relationship, but moving to San Diego was the best thing I ever did for myself. Besides, I like Yudi, too. :D Went shopping with Natalie to return the ties my dad bought me (who wears ties in academia?), so I got a lightweight raincoat instead. Then Natalie and I picked up Uncle after his dance demo at a local college and we had dinner at Tom Jones - I think the last time I was there was Christmas dinner when my dad was in the hospital, which would have been 1999!

12/28/02 - Saw "Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers" with the gang, including Tommy & Jason and Mark. Many snarky remarks were made about making sweet hobbit love down by the fires of Mordor, and appropriate "fairy" remarks between Aragorn and Legolas. Afterwards we stopped to pick up food (Chik-fil-A nuggets - YUM! We need one of those in San Diego), and headed to my house for one of the better parties I've had in a while - everyone was there, had lots of laughs, and it was great seeing everyone all at once. I need to do that more often when I head home. We were there until 3:00 a.m.

12/29/02 - My good sister came down with her kids, and we all headed over to see Grandmom. She's doing pretty good for an old broad, and was in good spirits (which is much improvement over her past). We only stayed less than an hour, and I'd like to have stayed more, but it was good to see her. That night, since Mark couldn't stay for the party, him, me, Lee and Natalie hit Denny's for dinner.

12/30/02 - I had a short list of things I needed from home and had planned to do my usual packing into plastic tubs and shipping them by train, but I only had one tub worth after putting stuff in my luggage for the plane, so Mom's going to ship that one box out to me UPS. A bunch of us got together one last time at Appleby's for dinner, which was also a lot of fun. I really do miss my friends back home, but seeing them like that makes it worth the schlep back east a few times a year. Now if only one of two of them would consider visiting San Diego...

Now if only one of two of them would consider visiting San Diego... <hint hint!>

12/31/02 - Time to head home! Sat for an hour on the runway because of fog, but they actually held the connecting flight to San Diego because there were so many of us on the plane (off one plane, across the airport hallway, and right onto another plane - made boarding pretty easy). Yudi picked me up and dropped me off at home, wrapped presents for Myke and John and everyone else I missed at Christmas, and then Yudi came back and picked me up for a party at his workout partner's place (where Yudi got thoroughly drunk and hit on a straight boy all night, who was just as drunk, which wasn't what I had in mind, but then there was a cute little Flip boy flirting with me all night, so it wasn't all bad - still, I kissed the right guy at midnight! <hee hee>). Got him back to my place, dumped him in bed, and stayed up chatting with the boys and Ben and Daniel until 3:00 a.m., at which point I had been awake for 24 hours - whee!

1/1/03 - Yudi and I exchanged our presents (he got me all Disney stuff - quelle suprise), and I bummed around most of the day. Ugh - travelling sucks.

1/2/03 - Back to work, only to discover my desk had ants all over it, so I spent all day cleaning my office. Nice.

This past weekend was fun. Friday night Yudi and I watched "The Fifth Element," then Saturday I slept in and we did coffee and dinner with the Asian boys. Sadly, Daniel informed me that his boy, Michael, said he didn't want to see him anymore (even socially), which sucked - I feel bad for Daniel, as he's been having no luck in the love department lately. Sunday I slept in and did NOTHING all day, except played Starcraft. I need to get the Brood Wars expansion!

Oh, and my new year's resolution? To clean my room and get my finances in order. I've made a new year's resolution for several years now, and haven't broken one yet (although one I have postponed for circumstances beyond my control).

[Note to self: Got to get around to writing about two things - the guy who came to visit me and then lied to me and ripped me off, and the back story about a SDMB feud, since I got asked again about it the other day.]
