TV is keeping me up at night

Adult Swim and Comedy Central really need to change their late-night line-ups. Every night I end up getting sucked into Family Guy, South Park, Robot Chicken, Tim & Eric, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Futurama, Venture Bros., Look Around You, Metalocalypse, and sometimes The Daily Show, not to mention occasionally finding something good on the History Channel. Yes, I know I should just TiVo it all, but first we're running out of space as it is (really need to get that 360-hour double tuner), and second I tend to turn on the TV while I'm getting ready for bed and think, "I'll just watch this to the end..." It's no wonder why it's always so difficult for me to get up in the mornings.

I could live without some of their other programming, though (Moral Orel, King of the Hill, Drinky Crow, Super Jail, Squidbillies, Tom Goes to the Mayor, Boondocks, Delocated, and all their anime), but thankfully most of them are in 15-minute formats. And although I feel like I should like Important Things and The Mighty Boosh, I just don't, or at least not yet.

Getting the mega-big HD Tivo is like caving in to the dark side. You never ever have to delete ANYTHING and it has like 200 suggestions for us all the time, only 80% of which are irritatingly off-mark.

We still have a 40-hour, and it drives me crazy when we have no suggestions recorded (which tells me we're near capacity). There are a few things I need to burn to DVD, but I'd love to just get the big one for downstairs, and move this one into the bedroom so I *can* record these late-night shows and watch them later, when it's not 1:00 in the morning.

When you take the plunge, know that they give you $100 off the lifetime membership if you're already a Tivo owner. BUT you have to ask them for it.

So, it's like only a $900 enterprise all told, intread of $1000. Gee thanks tivo.

I beg to differ. I have 200 hours on mine and you DO have to delete stuff, because what you end up doing is starting on a TV show and then let an entire season or more build up, along with whatever else you think "oh that might be cool to watch someday" until you've got pages of shows that you plan on eventually "getting around to" and you end up with a BIG full TiVo instead of a smaller one...

More space does not solve the problem of "not enough time to watch TV", it just puts it off until later. :)

I have that same problem--I wish the lack of space forced me to delete stuff so it would stop hanging around making me feel guilty that I STILL haven't gotten to it.

My mom bought us a DVD burner for Christmas, so at least I can put the stuff we actually like on DVD and delete them off the TiVo. Alas, I'm a perfectionist, so I have to actually be there to pause it during the commercials. :)

But, but, I thought TiVo watched TV FOR you, so you didn't have to? DOESN'T IT WORK THAT WAY???

(Alas, I believe you're right - we still have the final episode of "Will & Grace" that we haven't watched!)

Aw, but Boondocks is pretty awesome.

(btw, what server are you on for City of Heroes? I fired my account back up again after a 5-year break...)

Honey, this is you we're talking about. You could go to bed at 8pm, sleep all night, and STILL have problems getting up in the morning!

I had the same problem with watching too many Adult Swim shows late at night. Comcast solved this problem for me by outright removing Cartoon Network from their line-up. Looking at the line-up on the website, Discovery Channel isn't listed either, yet I'm still getting it. O.o

Thanks to Cartoon Network and Zack, my love of the Scooby-Doo mysteries has been rekindled. I hadn't even thought of Scooby in close to 15 years, but because Cartoon Network airs them every Thursday morning like clockwork, I am now caught up on their latest adventures, and it looks like Zack is on his way toward becoming a fan of the thriller/mystery genre.

Or he's going to grow up to be a stoner... or write slash... or wear an ascot...

Stoners don't watch Cartoon Network, they watch Adult Swim!

Cut your cable! Problem solved!

:-)

More seriously, if our experiment pans out, we may have a 160 hr (I think) dual tuner analog TiVo we won't be needing. It already has lifetime service. Interested?

You'll pry my cable (or, in this case, DirecTV) from my cold, dead hands... :)

If we're getting a new TiVo I'm going to look into upgrading the whole kit and kaboodle, including big TV and going all digital. I'll keep it in mind, though, and thanks.
