You'd think with all my SMOFing skills I'd be running local SCA events instead of just stuff at Pennsic, wouldn't you?

Yeah, what's up with that? The local stage is just too small for your enormous talents? ;)

Well I certainly enjoy doing what I do at Pennsic, but even that's only a couple hundred at best. :)

SMOF = Secret Master Of Fandom

The people who run sf/f conventions.

As buddykat said, Secret Master of Fandom. When I was in San Diego I was Chair for Gaylaxicon, as well as pretty heavily involved with Conjecture, the newer San Diego SF con, and a here and there a couple of other local cons as needed. It only just recently dawned on me that Autocratting SCA events would be right up my alley. Downside is that the paperwork and rules/regs for the SCA are FAR more complicated than the fandoms I've worked in, so that would be a challenge, but an interesting thought nonetheless. Master Giles kept telling me he'd be more than happy to introduce me around, so one never knows...

Nothing like another Gcon to sharpen your SMOF skills... ;-)

I think at this point that goes without saying; it's just a matter of when. :)

That would mean that you'd have to get involved in the local SCA and local politics. Do you even *go* to local SCA events?

Plus, it would be WAY too much like putting down roots *here* instead of San Diego.

unclrashid was going to come down for a local event, but it didn't happen, alas. While I was in San Diego a mover/shaker in OC wanted to show me around and introduce me to folks, but we never managed to connect. We'll have to see what happens... :)

You'd make a great Autocrat.
Apr. 22nd, 2009 03:41 am (UTC)
I do believe I would. I'd have a LOT to learn about SCA infrastructures, politics, rules/regs/procedures, etc., though.

Oh, I wanted to mention to you that there's another Pennsic SCAdian on my f-list, msmcknittington.

Much to my amusement, when asked she said that she knew of you but that the two of you haven't met.

Oh good gravy, I have a reputation? AAAAAH!
Apr. 22nd, 2009 03:43 am (UTC)
I don't know if you have a reputation or not. I only know that she has heard of you, and as I wasn't about to find out the gossip for you, figured I'd share.

Apr. 22nd, 2009 03:47 am (UTC)
NO! Find the gossip! I command you!

Because we both know how well I respond to orders. :P (Truthfully, she didn't seem inclined to say more, so I didn't push. I don't know this person well enough to hazard a guess as to whether that's good or bad.)

Clearly, my coat of arms should include a mule.

Hee! Nah, I'm just joshin'. (HAR HAR!) Tell her she's welcome to stop by and say hi, though! I don't bite! :)

Ditto the comment about actually, oh, say, connecting with your local group, going to local events, pop/business meetings, fighter practice. Stuff like that. Local groups tend not to let folks autocrat that they don't know. Just sayin.

but, yes, I think you would be great at it. If you lived in my kingdom, you probably would have had service awards for your Pennsic work, btw.

I know, that whole getting involved thing. Bah. BAH! :)

I'm not in the East anymore, but was only involved peripherally anyway, nobody knew me in Caid or knows me in Atlantia, and I only do stuff at Pennsic. Who'd notice me to actually think of getting me an award, really?
