dammit

Came home from work, got the truck towed to the mechanic. The timing belt went, and they gave me a worst case quote of $1,100, depending on what else needs replacing once they get in there. Should be done tomorrow afternoon, which means I'll need to leave work a little early again tomorrow so Q and take me. So there goes another huge chunk of our Rainy Day/Move to San Diego Fund. Plus Posh is acting odd, so who knows? Maybe she'll need a vet visit on top of that.

Time to go hide for a while.

I actually did find a mechanic who isn't trying to rip me off, so I trust it's accurate. I'm just hoping that it really is worst-case, and that it won't quite come to that.

If the timing belt went while the car wasn't moving, or was moving very slowly, it's likely to cost *much* less to repair. I can't recall what I paid to fix the Neon's timing belt, but I do know it was not nearly that much... and it went while I was going about 5mph.

The car was at a stop sign when the engine cut out, but no matter - it was indeed $1100 for the belt, water pump, pulleys, etc. etc. etc. Blah.
