I am amused by fiscal conservatives, as evidenced by this cartoon:

Yep. Exactly true. And universal in every first-world democratic country too.

Here in Canada, the centre-slightly-right Liberal party ran massive surpluses -- though sadly didn't do anything worthwhile with the money. The far-right Conservatives then won a minority government and the surplus evaporated overnight. Their leader, Prime Minister Stephen Harper, is an economist.

But a five-year-old child can see the problem with cutting taxes massively, starving infrastructure, and then starting very expensive wars, which tends to be the way fiscal conservatives go about things.

There are also some very basic flaws in the logic of Neo-classical/Neo-liberal/Reagnomics/voodoo/Chicago-School/Milton-Friedman/trickledown/supply-side economics, starting with the fact that money trickles up, not down. But this economic ideology has since become a religion for fiscal conservatives.
