I am mighty!

I bought a nail gun!

They let us out early from work today.

When someone is backing up, they have the right of way goddammit!

I would seek to contest that last statement.

On what basis?

For instance, the who was going about 40 mph in reverse up the on ramp from I95 into main street traffic as I was about to get on the expressway a couple years ago absolutely did not have the legal right of way...never a cop around when you need one...

OK, that was clearly illegal. I'm talking about backing out of a parking space and some moron is going 40 mph and practically rips my rear end off because he decides I can see better backing up than he can going forward and therefore I'm the one that should stop.

Also, he was a jerk.

I hope Item #2 is not a result of you going on a rampage with Item #1.

I only know the Calif. rules, but a car backing up generally never has the right of way. A car backing up must yield until it is safe to back up.

And if the person backing up can't see and is already halfway out of their parking space and some moron decides to race behind them and almost cause an accident?

If there were a collision in this case, it would be totally you're fault (in Penna).

That's insane. I always yield to someone backing up, as they can't see nearly as well as I can (particularly when there are, say, large SUVs parked on either side of them). I thought in PA the person who does the hitting is at fault, i.e., the person who is moving forward and is required to have control of their vehicle (as in hitting someone from behind)?

Guess it all depends on the situation. At first, the car backing up would still be considered at fault, but then when it goes to court or whatever, it could be proven that the other one would be at fault.

OK, then let's clarify - when *I* am backing out of a parking spot and can't see oncoming traffic clearly, other people need to stop. me me me! :P

My first thought on reading that you'd bought a nail gun was, "Wouldn't it be easier just to pay someone to give you a manicure?" :P

Yes, just like that. :)

(Wow, I've actually seen that episode! I'm not a huge Simpsons fan - I'll watch it if I'm in front of the TV and there's nothing else on, but I don't go out of my way to watch it.)

We TiVo it so there's something to watch when nothing else is on. :)
