Yee haw?

So this morning on the radio they had a guest on talking about the local fire department's fundraiser coming up. It will be a gala evening of food, drinks, fun... and guns. They will be auctioning off one hundred and eleven guns.

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... yeah.

If you see a SIG-Sauer P220, pick it up for me. The 45, not the 9mm. Thanks!

By the way, what is that icon supposed to be? Eye of Sauron? Mirror of Erised? Brown eye? WHAT?

It's just a mirror on a wall that I like. I cropped it from a pic in one of the home decorating LJ communities.

And I gakked this one just for you.

Having been to a number of fundraisers that do this I can assure you that all the usual background checks and other assorted paperwork will be assiduously followed. Especially in Maryland where they perform the make-work-for-no-benefit idiocy of ballistic testing on all new guns sold.

That said, I think defenestr8tor has a good point. Pick something nice up for me too please? A Sig Sauer, or a Kimber 1911 would be nice. I'll even take a Glock.

I heard in the footnote they'd be donig all the federal checks and such, but still, this is, shall we say, rather discombobulating to those of us who have grown up in the suburbs, as opposed to here in Teh Stix, where, for example, a co-worker slaughters hogs at his home and offers us sales of ribs, sausages and bacon. Add to that this area is also an up-and-coming ghetto in certain areas (for example, the shooting murder in the apartment complex next to us last week), and, well, a gun-selling fundraiser just strikes me as amazingly stupefying.

But I'll not be getting you any guns - not in my code of ethics, I'm afraid. But you're welcome to come visit. :)

Given your description, the sale is probably mostly of rifles and shotguns. Not exactly concealable, and therefore mostly unlikely to be unwilling accomplices of a crime.

Also, didn't you know that the fastest way to decrease crime is to increase the number of law-abiding citizens who own guns? Because, well, they're law-abiding. Which means, generally, that they are not known for committing crimes. Criminals have a strong aversion to trying to attack people who own guns.

Sorry - soapbox button :)

That's a little odd for a fire department fundraiser. I'd have thought they'd get a more positive response if they auctioned off chances to play with a fireman's hose. ;)
