French shit

Watched another God awful flick last night - Head On

Just... don't. Not even the full frontals of the hot lead were worth it.

Summary - "Life is shit, and after an entire day of using drugs, treating the people who love me like shit, getting arrested, rebelling against my heritage, using people for sex, sleeping with women even though I'm gay, and realizing I'm throwing away my entire life... I'm not going to change. Why is life such shit?"

Every foreign film is now coming off the Netflix queue. Every. Goddamned. One.

I'm telling you. "Le Femme Nikita." By the same guy who did "Fifth Element." And if you havn't seen that movie you should hold your head in shame.

I'm not looking for hot leads, and the gay thing is what Q added to the list way back when when he first signed up. Thankfully there are only a few more left, and they are GONE.

French cinema is nihilism city; French gay cinema moreso.

But this isn't French gay cinema, it's Greek/Australian gay cinema. Nihilism isn't the norm. Australian gay cinema tends to be pretty celebratory (if sometimes drug-drenched); it's the immigrant Greek experience which takes it down to Hades (if you'll forgive me).

Not a film I ever wanted to see based on the reviews and descriptions when it came out. Still, not a reason to take foreign films off the queue. Definitely a reason to check the IMDB user comments for any foreign film on the queue.

This is only after a list of French films, and a few English-speaking REALLY BAD indie films, so I'm just taking them all off. I'll never get those hours back!

Foreign? Films
Chris here (Dave to you apparently :-))
Try C.R.A.Z.Y. It's Canadian, (and thereby foreign)and French language just to make it really feel foreign. Gay themed, more interesting if you actually remember the 60s and 70s.

Except Amelie, of course, though you've probably already seen it. J'adore that film.

And Jules et Jim. And Cinema Paradiso. Etc., etc.

If it's not good enough for an English dub, then we don't put it on our queue...

Dubbed? Ew. I may have my criticisms of foreign films, but I can't stand dubbed films. Subtitles for me, baby. There's just something about hearing it in its native tounge. Maybe it's 'cause I sang so much Latin, German, Italian and French in music school...
