The Fandom Creed

Yeah, I know a few folks who need to read and swear by this:

The Fandom Creed

After all, it's just fandom. ;)

Ah if only all of this was applicable to the furry fandom but often the artists and story writers which make up a huge amount of the fandom are who the fan creatures are after and we are the makers of canon in the fandom since it is the art that is the center of the fandom. the one place where out fandom differs greatly from all others. We have no central canon like in the scifi fandoms or fantasy fandoms. Furry is widespread including going thorugh anime and sci-fi and fantasy and others as well as things somewhat more exclusive to us. but beyond what furry appears in popular culture and in various other genres we have a lot of fan base soley focused on the artists within the fandom and the writers within the fandom.

this tends to create a lot of situations that are harder to avoid that are spoken of in the creed. such as all the people that ARE canon and central to the fandom. everyone in our fandom is a creator or can be one if they try.

i think this is the huge differnce between furry and nearly everything else

I see what you're saying, but I think the general points of "keep your ego in check" and "furry fandom will continue without you" are still valid.

Oh yeah those are still valid but not all of the fandom creed could be applied in this case. it would have to be modified a bit. the best artists and such in our fandom do tend to keep thier egos well in check which is good and i wish a lot of the wannabe peons would do the same.

if we could follow most of this creed so much drama would disapear from the fandom.

Also i thought about it and Well the SCA is kinda like that too with the total focus not being on any oen group and with the members being the creators and teachers and focus in the group a lot of times though not as bad as Furry

Same as above - "King" only means you hit someone with a stick, and any schoolyard bully can do that. Keep it in check, Your Majesty.

After running Philcon two years ago, I can SO agree with this.

And those of us who are running a con this year agree, too!

Wow
My god, Alan... there are so many people in fandom here in LA that need to read this! :) It's something that took me a while to learn myself, mind, but I can think of a few choice people that take this far too seriously...

Re: Wow
I can think of quite a few myself. Happily, not very many of them live in San Diego, so the fandom there is still fairly happy.
