Teeming Millions is what Cecil Adams, author of "The Straight Dope" newspaper column, calls his fanbase. As a fan of his, and a frequent poster (or was, anyway) at the Straight Dope Message Boards (or SDMB for short), I was one of those millions, known colloquially as "The Gay Guy." It's where I met your girlfriend, by the way. :)

SMOFs is an acronym for "Secret Masters Of Fandom," a term used to describe folks who run fan sci-fi conventions. We're the ones that work behind the scenes so the fanboys and fangirls can squee over their favorite authors, artists and actors for a weekend in their local area, plus run discussion panels, an art show, a dealers room with fabulous merchandise, social events, and a costume masquerade.

I've been really involved since I moved out to San Diego, including being involved in various capacities with Conjecture, a San Diego con, and being Chair for Gaylaxicon last year, the national LGBT con, plus I'm already signed up for other future cons. :)

Sheesh! Did you forget about the whole "secret" part? Next you'll be telling everyone about the initiation ceremony, and there'll be a rush on whipped cream and shaved armadillos!

JOhn.

margibtinlin?

I was wondering if anyone would spot that one. :)

Margibtinlin is the fictious company my friends back in Philly created. We had decided to hold our annual Christmas party at a hotel, and the two guys hosting it that year found out they could get 10% off if it was a corporate function, so they invented Margibtinlin, an amalgram of their names (Martin and Giblin). T'was quite a hoot - they made up business cards, we had an employee directory, the whole nine yards. It lived on past that year and grew in reputation. Our tagline is "Makers of Quality Ball Bearings and Fine Oriental Cookware since 1985!" and our motto is "We're fucking you now!"

OK, none of that made sense, but it's funny to us. :D

Can't find an interest that I don't know about, already.
Although I do like your Margibtinlin explanation. "We're fucking you now"

Dopers refers to those of us who frequent the Straight Dope Message Board, as noted above... and nothing else... ;)

UU and UUism refers to my religion of choice, Unitarian Universalism. Probably the most liberal (and smallest) of mainstream religions, its roots are in Christianity, but it's gone well beyond that. Most of the congregations I've seen (and they vary pretty widely) include Christians, Jews, agnostics, atheists, Buddhists, Pagans, and a whole bunch of other non-traditional traditions that still manage to come together and form a community. The basics can be found at the Unitarian Universalist Association's website, including our Purposes & Principles, the basic tenents of UUism.

SDMB stands for the Straight Dope Message Board, and you can see my explanation of that above.

On your list - erisian? And I laughed when I saw "tessei" on there. Hee!
