Reading about the hurricane this morning. Thinking about Widder Mary and Neil and Jay and hoping everyone's ok. Bah. They say New Orleaners drink their hurricanes, but this one's quite a glassful. I want there to be a there there when Quincy and I go visit.

Edited to add: Huzzah! Just heard from Neil that both he and Mary are out of the area and safe. Hopefully we'll hear from Jay soon.

I'm a bit nervous about the whole thing myself because I have friends in New Orleans who I haven't heard of, and another person I know lives in Pass Christian in Mississippi which, wouldn't you know it, was apparently where the storm came ashore after it left Louisiana. Ugh. It looks pretty bad.

I don't know if you know Grant Kruger, but he posted the following on the SMOFS list today. I'm sure he wouldn't mind my passing it along so that his non-SMOFS friends would know he's okay (he lives in Jackson, Mississippi):

We are fine. Kat is still out there. Trees are still falling. Six
trees fell close to the house. All missed. More fell all over. Thuds and
rifle shots of falling limbs and big vibrations from the big trees. Driveway blocked by one. Several trees took buddies with them on the way down. Nature's pick-up-sticks. Amazing. Too absorbed to be scared. Three trees still a big danger, but the worst may be past. Spent much time outside - fascinated. And this is Jackson! We are two hours in from the coast!! Poor bastards on the coast must have taken an utter pasting. Must dash. No power all day and battery is low. We will be fine. Sorry this is jumbled.

I don't know him, but thanks for passing it along.

He's a former South African, and knows Antonio and Barrett. The only place you probably would've run into him would be at a Worldcon, I think.
