Quincy called. w00t!

He got an e-mail from his Master Chief:

He is scheduled to leave for home on September 9.

Best. News. EVAR.

The phones are still out, but he can pay for and use a cell phone SIM card instead of the satellite phone so we can talk more than 5 minutes at a time, and hopefully more often. He's at another base for about two weeks training some Iraqis there, and then it's back to Al Kasik. He said there are some Navy journalists doing some photo essays there, and although the public probably wouldn't be able to see the pictures, he might get one or two for himself, which would be keen. He also said he's gained 15 pounds, so I guess the food is good. :)

We also had yet another discussion about the move, but it looks like he still wants to go ahead with the plan as it is - he comes back, works through September, takes October off to go to the Philippines and then Sacramento, then he comes out to San Diego the last week and I move back with him. Unfortunately, that still leaves us without a place of our own until he gets a house, but he's calling his uncle soon to get the process started (hopefully having some places to look at in September), and he's going to talk to his current landlords about me moving into Darwin's old room until we do get a place (Darwin is leaving at the end of August).

It's all very frustrating because if it were up to me I'd be moving out there the day he gets back, but if I don't have a place to live it's not going to do me much good. I just hate having to continue to be patient since I am completely ramped up and psyched about finally moving and starting our lives together. Argh. Plus he says he wants to see me in September when he gets back and before he heads out to the Philippines, and all I can think is, why not just move then? So many details. Moving to San Diego wasn't this hard! :)

So although the countdown got ramped back up, it's nice to know that 53 days to go is a little firmer now.1

1Yes, I realize the date may yet change again, so please don't rain on my parade. I'm learning that, as a military spouse, you simply take the good news when you get it and hope for the best.

Yay! Great news! And kudos for discussing the move by taking both your needs into account - good healthy relationship skills there, kiddo!

Yup. I was very clear that although I knew he needed to do what he needed to do, and that I wasn't necessarily asking him to change his mind, I needed to express my feelings, and he could make any decisions with that information in mind.

Really, though, I just want to get on with it. :)
