Star Trek artificial intelligences

Maybe it's because I just finished re-reading Immortal Coil, which ties together so many artificial intelligence plotlines so well in the Star Trek universe, but I decided to be a complete and utter geek and catalog all the artficially-created intelligent life forms seen over the course of 5 series and the movies. So, in all its HTML glory, here it is:

Canonical list of androids, robots, sentient computers and programs in the Star Trek universe:

Aren't you going to include "The Doctor" (Voy)? He is definitely an AI.

And what about hologrammatic Leah Brahms (TNG)?

See I dunno about the Doctor's AI status. If he's considered AI, how come every hologram isn't? What makes him different than all the other simulations? Left on too long? If that's the case, Vic should be AI too, and anytime anyone says "Computer: End Program", they're killing potential life. Holograms are tricky, for me. Maybe the Doctor has a case, but I wouldn't consider Leah Brahms anything more than a computer program.

Of course, I'm assuming this list is limiting itself to AI considered "alive", rather than any 'ol thing with artificial intelligence (like any and every startship computer).

I don't think Borg count as AI.

Lorsira (That Which Survives) was more of a holographic projection made by the central computer. It could not be detected by tricorders, so I surmise it had no mass and very little energy.

Otherwise, quite impressive.

Immortal Coil was a great book. The list is great. Good work!

seconded, i thought that book was awesome. although to call that bokk canonical, i don't think including the whole "old ones" thing is very helpful, seeing as that was just an Immortal Coil thing.

... i just got that feeling down my spine that im completely wrong. but i could be completely wrong about being completely wrong.

im dumb.

Soong's androids are very highly advanced. They don't really compare to other AIs. It has to do with the "neural net" that attempts to duplicate the functioning of the human brain.

What i never understood about them is why B-4 (in Nemesis) was such a surprise to everyone. It was as though everyone thought it was amazing that there could be an android like Data, even though they'd already met Lore, etc. years before that.

Thank you for this list
I will always remember Ted Cassidy (Lurch), as Ruk and the voices he did in TOS.
Thank you for including M5!

Don't forget when Andy Dick guest starred as the "new" doctor. Does that count?

I'm thinking not - although clever and adaptable, I don't think he qualified as having true sentience. Then again, we didn't see much of him, so who knows?

This is indeed a formidable resource for the specified information. Would very much be helpful to anyone writing a research paper or critical analysis on artificial intelligence in science fiction.
