Thanks. Not actually WoWing tonight, though. It'll be time to hang out with friends at my OTHER geeky enjoyment! :)

Happy birthday Joe (see you on Sunday)... I take it that your other geeky enjoyment means Disneyland... :)

Sex? :P

That's not geeky. Or at least, not inherently so. :)

Two great geeks that taste great together? :P

Indeed! Happy birthday to you!

But what? No WoWing?? *shakes head* I suppose Disney is a reasonable substitute from time to time.

Yeah but where have you been, Andy? David's on all the time, I never see *you*... :)

Playing WoW, of course! However, WoW doesn't seem to do very well switching between tasks (for example, going between WoW and Trillian), so I often don't have Trillian open while I'm playing. You just need to visit me in game. :)

Pffft, forget the WoW - COH ALL THE WAY BABY! :D
Jun. 9th, 2005 08:19 pm (UTC)
No, no ... the WoW is all!

I'm afraid David has been unsuccessful in winning me over to CoH. I've tried it a couple times -- even bought my own copy of the game -- but I just haven't found it as fun and engaging. WoW on the other hand is scarily addictive to me -- few games have grabbed me so much, and for so long. Makes me wonder when the WoW patch is coming out -- not the one for the software, but the one I put on my arm!

Oddly, no other game has entranced me as much as CoH has. The fantasy (and anime, for that matter) genre has never thrilled me (including most RPGs), but superheroes are fun to me (including Champions, the only RPG I really got into for any length of time). I also used to hear horror stories about Ultima Online and other MMOGs where you'd start out and spend all of your time getting your ass kicked by level 20's, whereas CoH's cooperative gamestyle really suits my fancy. I guess I'm just not cutthroat enough. :) (And yes I know WoW has PvE AND PvP, but the fantasy genre in general just does nothing for me.)

I'm definitely looking forward to trying CoH (don't take my agreement with Andy as a dismissal of that!), because I have heard and seen great things about it. I am aware, however, that it has an uphill battle if it wants to suck me away from my other computer addiction. :)

Hopefully you'll enjoy it enough to play with us once in a while. :)

Ditto. :)

BTW, Ristin is level 50 now, and I'm starting to be able to smell endgame raids! I can't remember the last time I was this sucked into a game. It's definitely cool that in some ways I really do see Azeroth as a "real" place. It's a testament to the designers and artists that it captured me so!

Now that Battlegrounds is out I'm seriously thinking of going back to my Horde character. Alliance have to wait in REALLY long lines while Horde go right in (and they say the faction imbalance isn't bad... HA!).

Dale's been trying to get me into WoW for a bit... is it better to go in as a Horde character? You're the second person I've seen say that...

Well, my experience with MMORPG's is basically limited to CoH and Star Wars Galaxies, and as you know I played that for six months before becoming bored. (I was a known regular on one of their servers... they've ruined the game now, though.) CoH is cool because it's EASY to play with a group, whereas SW:G wasn't. That's what I like about it, it's no fun to play solo all the time.

Not knowing about WoW yet though (Dale's been busy and then I got sick since we first spoke about it, back at AndyD's housewarming) I can't tell you what I'd think of it. I tried EverCrack2 and got bored very fast.

Don't tell anyone, but if I get home and it's not too late, I might log in....

Look, a monkey!
