Home sick today, but I think I needed it after one hell of a weekend...
Saturday I had planned on leaving at noon to make it up to javamaven1's baby shower and justplainbryan's new daddy party, both of which started at 3:00. Of course, that means I woke up at 11:30. Bah. So, ok, I leave a little late - no biggie.
Then, around 12:30, Q calls. Yay! But with four dropped calls (and it takes him quite some time to get through again), that put me way behind schedule. I ended up leaving the house at 3:00 - BAH!
Still, no biggie. I called papaveraceae, who was helping Jen run the baby shower, to let her know I was running way late, and it looked like I'd meet them at Pickwick's Pub, where Bryan was having his party, and where they were all going to end up after the baby shower was over. She didn't answer her phone, but no biggie - I knew they were busy having a party.
Traffic, of course, sucked, and it was a little farther than I thought it was, but still, I ended up getting there at 6:00, figuring I would still be able to catch all the fun.
Unfortunately, Pickwick's burned down last Saturday.
So standing in front of a burned-out shell of a restaurant, I figured this party was just about a wash. I was heading back to my car when papaveraceae called to say she was home sick and had no idea if they knew the place was gone.
So, the question burning in my mind (pun not intended) is, does having the place of your new daddy party burn to the ground reflect in any way on your future as a father? (The answer: No, but it makes for a great story!)
So from there I decided to stop off, pick up some coffee and donuts and head over to pansyfilmmaker and blackvinylangel's Gods & Goddesses housewarming party. After getting a little lost (Whatdyamean, no left turn?!? I'm makin' one anyway!), I arrived to find myself the first guest (and I was almost an hour late!), greeted oh so fashionably garbed bescincimevsim dressed as Posiedon. JT and Adam, however, were still working on their costumes (Eros and Dionysus, respectively), with the able aid of Zeus (aka carlosp). Although there was a shortage of non-alcoholic beverages, much fun was had by all. A few other LJers were there, including areakt and brandeur (with the world's cutest otter), and a few others whose screen names I forget, but it really was a hoot meeting everyone.
Gods and goddesses represented included Hades, Pluto, and the goddess of costuming. My costume? Well, I wore one of my Unitarian Universalist t-shirts, and explained in great detail that I really wanted to come as a god or goddess, but, being UU, we really hadn't come to concensus about whether there was a god or not, and how many there may or may not be, so until the committee could come to some kind of recommendation and get it approved by the minister for approval to be voted on by the congregation at the next general meeting, I was there to respect everyone else's religious choices (or non-choices, as the case may be), and hey, can't we all agree to partake in UU communion - coffee and donuts? :) (Those who got it thought it was amusing, at least.)
So I stayed there way too late, Chris got way too drunk, and everyone was way too amusing. (Pictures will be up soon!) I found a little motel near Disneyland and crashed for the night, meeting jsciv for breakfast at Tiffy's before heading off for a day at California Adventure and Disneyland with the gay AP group. Quite a fun day - new stuff I did was see "The Ugly Bug Ball" show, eat at Hook's Pointe, and rode the new Buzz Lightyear ride twice. It was great fun hanging out with Joe, finally meeting Andy (and remembering him!), and seeing a lot of the AP group and meeting some new people. I did get the cheapie southern California pass, figuring it'll save me a little bit of money even if I only go one more time before I move.
We stayed until closing and I didn't get home until after 1, and this morning my stomach was queasy and I had a headache, so I decided to call in sick. Just got up about an hour ago, ate breakfast, and now I'll play some CoH until I get motivated to go to the store for some groceries.
