DAMMIT! (Update on Q)

Missed his call AGAIN! This time he called at 3:30 in the morning, and my phone was ON and SIX INCHES FROM MY HEAD! Why didn't I hear it?!?! I must have been zonked. Foo. :(

Anyway, he's still somewhere around Bagdhad, still training, and leaves for Tall 'Afar on Sunday or Monday. He's ok and misses everyone. And that's about all he said.

I thought a 3-hour time difference was bad - this 11-hour difference is going to REALLY suck. BAH!

On the upside he also sent me an e-mail - yay! He gave me the details of where he's been, is, and will be. He said the food was really good there, so at least that's a plus. Otherwise he's fine, although he's worried about having adequate phone and/or internet access, but I guess we'll have to make do.

So that's the latest.

Could you put your phone on vibrate at night? Maybe that'd wake you up!

It's on vibrate AND the loudest I can get it to ring. And it was 6 INCHES FROM MY HEAD. I really do sleep like a rock, but I guess I was REALLY tired because my phone has woken me up at night before (although I usually turn it off at night but have been leaving it on for JUST THIS REASON).

Grrr. Maybe you need to install a fire alarm on your phone? =D

If it's loud enough to wake the rest of the housemates, I'm putting my veto in now. (And frankly, knowing Esprix, it would have to be loud enough to wake the neighbors... three states away.)

Well that's what you get for staying up until almost 1:00am commenting in other people's journals (and, unless I miss my guess, playing CoH???). :)

I've controlled my WoW addiction. Last night I even played for only about 30 minutes and was able to leave before I got sucked into a group. There is help. :)

But the real point is that if you want to catch calls from Q you can't play games until your eyes are bleeding, because then you're too dead to hear the phone. So in the games vs. Q balance, who wins??

Regardless of how late I stay up, it's still true I sleep like a rock. And I certainly didn't know he'd be calling this morning. CoH is just the distraction I need right now, so I'm not going to be curtailing it any time soon.

Or better, stay up playing CoH *until* Q calls. You'd be sure to be awake and hear the phone.

Of course, then he might have to wait a couple minutes for you to finish whatever mission you're on... ;)

I actually did stay up all night the night before and the day he left for Iraq, which was good because we did get to talk. (And my teammates went ahead without me just fine.) once he gets settled into his routine I'm sure we'll be able to work it out.

I can see that we're going to have to do a lot of distracting on April 8-10 for you!!!!! I'll do what I can for 'ya!

Yes, thank goodness. I figure the more time he spends training the less time he spends doing dangerous things, so let's hope he stays there, trains well and gets all fattened up on good food. :)

I'm glad his cell works over there. Now just to find a way to wake you when it rings...hmmm, electro-shock like a handshake buzzer?

I'm sure with help from his local friends, we can rig something up. Personally, I'm in favor of a cold water bath hooked up to his cell phone. That *might* do the trick.

:D

Oh it certainly wasn't his cell phone. In fact, they may be setting him up with a satellite phone once he gets to Tall 'Afar because, well, there's no there there. Sigh.

I don't know if this applies to his situation, but my church recently did a "help out a soldier" thing where we sent phone cards to soldiers so they could get in touch with loved ones. However, I don't recall any of the addresses being overseas... maybe they are being collected in this country and then sent over? I'm really not sure. Anyway, it might be something to look into, to see if it would behoove you to include some pre-paid minutes on a piece of plastic in any care packages you send over.

Yes, those are definitely on the "to send" list. He already has a couple he took with him.
