First Photos Meme

I originally saw this in jayjaybear's LJ and have since seen it elsewhere, and it looked like fun, so here goes:

The First Photos Meme

1. First car:

That's right, an "automatic stickshift" '68 Volkswagen Bug (manufactured in the same month and year I was, actually), given to me by family friends Pat & Lois. It survived for quite a while until I discovered that the oil light didn't work by having it seize up on me on 95 one Sunday afternoon. I ended up selling it to someone who restored them, and for all I know it's still out there running somewhere.

2. Place you grew up

Lovely suburban Aston, Pennsylvania, which as you can see is about halfway between Philadelphia, PA and Wilmington, DE. Since no one ever actually goes to Delaware, I spent a lot of time in Philly. :)

3. Place you live now

Beautiful San Diego, California, baby! This is home now, and this is where Q and I will eventually settle once he gets out of the Navy.

4. Your name

I rather like the image. Maybe that'll be my new desktop. Hmmm...

5. Grandmother's name

My mother's mother, and my only still living grandparent, is named Margaret, and this is a photo of Princess Margaret, who is, as far as I can tell, the real Princess Margaret, and not a pantomime Princess Margaret. ("Pity - we could have saved the Bentley." Name that joke!) My father's mother's name was Clara, but sadly both she and my father's father passed away before I was born.

6. Favorite food

I was going to appease darkscydeDaniel and pinoyboytoyQ by just putting up plain old chicken tenders, but I must admit that my craving always goes back to Chik-Fil-A chicken nuggets. Man, these with some waffle fries and their sweet iced tea - hoo, boy! Meal made in heaven for me!

7. Favorite drink

Black tea for me, thank you, and I drink it wonderfully British - lots of sugar, lots of milk. I will try other teas now and then, but my comfort tea is plain ol' Lipton, whilst I enjoy perusing Irish breakfasts, English breakfasts, assams, cinnamon, and others.

8. Favorite song

"Anthem" from the 80's musical "Chess." Perfect for my voice range, and even got to learn it as part of my jury one year as a voice major.

9. Favorite smell

I have a Yankee Candle cinnamon stick housewarmer candle in my room right now. Love it!

10. Favorite pair of shoes ever

My cowboy boots. Bought them new, broke 'em in dancing, and by goodness if they aren't still the most comfortable pair of shoes I own. I don't wear them often except when I do decide to go out two-stepping (which is rare these days), but I do love 'em.

We should totally go two-stepping! I haven't been since I lived in Tulsa, and my boots are sadly neglected these days.

I'm surprised you eat at Chick Fil-A. I mean, they have the world's best chicken nuggety things, but the owner's a raving fundie.

I can't resist the tempting tenders. Yes, it's a weakness. :(

my first beatle was cherry red...or was it rust red...66 beetle named "christine"...Piece of Sh*T!!! I had a 6 volt battery..I converted to a 12 volt...just so I could put in a stereo. THe floor boards were rusted out...and just had planks. When I first got it, its maximum speed was 55 downhill wind at my back. In the snow and rain I use to stick my head out the window to see (broken winshield wipers).

By the time I sold it...I put in 1000 dollars to try to fix it, but sold it for 100 bucks because the clutch rotted and fell to floor and top speeds were about 20 mph.

I miss that car. We had a love/hate relationship

Same here! It was white, and the "automatic stickshift" cracked me up - the clutch was in the handle, and you pressed down to change gears at around 35 mph. Very odd. My brother-in-law referred to it as "the floating coffin," but I called it the Jester of Philadelphia, since when I got it I was playing the Jester in Drexel University's production of "Once Upon A Mattress" and I was working that summer on the Spirit of Philadelphia.

I actually burned out the engine twice on that thing, but the second time was when I got rid of it, and that was I think in 1987. After that I drove the Beige Bomber, my mother's station wagon (don't remember the details on that one, but it was BIG), which I wrapped around a tree one snowy night, then I got my step-grandfather's '77 Ford Grenada (8-track stereo and everything!), then I bought a cherry '89 Plymouth Reliant from my boss (it only had like 20K miles on it, and it was already 6 years old) until the radiator blew in 1999 or so, then I mooched off my mom's car (a '95 Buick Century) until I moved out here, when my friend Vic in LA sold me his '95 Plymouth Neon, which I'm still driving today (and really like).

Wow. Interesting to go back and look at all the cars I've had. My next one's gonna be a pickup truck. :D
