On a Sunday morning no less...

I was awoken by a phone call at 9:00 am this morning. Surprisingly, it wasn't Quincy - it was David Gerrold. He offered to call back later in the afternoon, which he did, in order to try to sell me on a self-help program that was developed from his book A Matter For Men.

That was just a tad surreal.

Above and beyond the fact that it was David calling you, a self-help program based on the Chtorr series is pretty frelling scarey. It's EST. On crack. With machine guns.

I'm jealous. I don't get famous science fiction authors (and, fer Og's sake, the writer of "The Trouble with Tribbles"!!!) ringing me up on the weekend...

On top of that he told me how much it meant for him to be GoH at Gaylaxicon, and that he'll always love me for it.

I rule.

Gerrold
Yes, you do rule.
Even though David was in Mpls just a couple months later it was great to have him as a Gaylaxicon guest. Besides, it was very cool to walk into the first David Mpls panel to hear, "Hey, I know you - I kicked your ass in Jeopardy!"

Say hi for us next time you chat with him.

Re: Gerrold
I don't talk to him often - I usually just see him at various cons, and I may see him at Gallifrey later in February. I was rather surprised to hear from him by phone, but I suppose it was nice that he had something that helped him in his life and thought I might be interested as well.

Ditto to what minotaurs said. I love the Chtorr books, and think David's terrific, but that's just whacked.

I don't know what's weirder - that, or the phone call I got from Harlan Ellison a couple of weeks ago during which he tried to sell me a combination storm window/bidet. (I wasn't expecting his call, and had gotten four calls earlier that day from telemarketers, and that was his response when I explained why I was a little slow to pick up on the fact that it was him calling.)

I think that qualifies as weirder.

That, I'm sure, is an entirely separate issue from what he was calling about. :P
