Well that's that.

Change "probable" to "definite."

I'm flying out ASAP.

If I were religious, I'd be praying for his safety.

Oh boy! Diyos mio! Where have I been all these time. Please hug Q for all of us here in the Phils. And yey, I'm spiritual, he'll be a part of my prayers from now on.

He just found out today. Call him if you get the chance - I know it would mean a lot to him to hear from his barkada from back home.

*Big Hugs*

Damn. I'm sorry, I was hoping they'd decide he was more needed here.

He is in the Navy, dear. Since the Marines are a part of the Navy, and he actually took Marine training after Navy boot camp, he may very well end up a corpsman for a Marine unit. However, I'm trying not to put the cart before the horse - he'll be getting more details in a few days, and then we'll know.

Another dear one to add to my prayers
There has already been to much death and suffering this year
I would honestly at this point throw myself into hell to keep it from happening again.
He and you shall of course be in my prayers

Oh, honey. I'm sorry.
Jan. 20th, 2005 12:21 pm (UTC)

Jan. 20th, 2005 01:56 pm (UTC)
I'm remembering you both in my prayers... I can't begin to tell you how much my hear goes out to you.
Jan. 20th, 2005 02:21 pm (UTC)
My best hopes for him and for you - when you get there give him a buss on the cheek from me and tell him even people who have never met EITHER of you are right there with the well-wishes and good vibes.

Praying to several deities for both of you. The offer is still good to write if he wants some letters from a kooky chiurgeon. If not Joshua stories I can send him kitty cat stories. Lots of hugs to both of you.

Tell him our prayers are with him...and let's hope for the best.

Doh! Forgot to ask - please give out an address to which we can send stuff meant for him. Thanks!

Wow, I'm sorry to hear that. I'm thinking good thoughts for both of you and hope he comes home to you safe and sound.

Goll-durn it!! and a whole lot of other really bad, bad words.

I'm exhausted from the drive to SJ, and this just isn't the news I wanted to hear/read upon waking up from 2.5 hours of sleep.

Send us an address for shipping books and such. I'm connected, so let's use it!!

{{{{{hug for both of you}}}}}

Words fail me. I can't even imagine. You know you have friends here to lean on.

My sister is an HM2 in the navy and was stationed in Kuwait City just before the Iraq invasion.

Besides the incidence of injury to our soldiers in Iraq being extremely low, Corpsmen are really well protected. My sister Devora kept telling me about how she couldn't have felt more safe... surrounded by big burly marines all the time who were very protective of her.

I asked her once what she'd do if one of them tried to get out of line and she answered me with "I just tell him that I'll lose his shot-records, and they cower immediately." You see... if their shot-records get misplaced, they have to take a whole battery of vaccinations all over again.

Anyways, Devora got a lot of time to shop and do the touristy thing when she was off-duty. I'm hearing from others over there that actually ended up in Iraq that it's 90% job and 10% vacation.

Mail is fairly reliable, as it helps keep up morale. Corpsmen are responsible for their unit's morale, so get ready to send DVD's of recently released movies to him regularly. Large bags of hard candy are a good idea, too.

If you want to talk to my sister about her experience over there, let me know and I'll put you in touch.

On the bright side, it most certainly will mean that he gets more pay while overseas and extra leave time when he gets back.

This is EXACTLY what he's been looking for - info from someone who's done the exact same thing.

Thank you thank you thank you! I may take you up on your offer to talk to your sister, or have him talk to her directly.
Jan. 20th, 2005 06:11 pm (UTC)
*hugs* to you both.

First off, big *hug* of support. I had a close family friend over there for nearly a year. I believe he did the same type of work that Quincy would be doing. I'll get in touch with him today and get more information.

Secondly, I"m starting the WB Care Package, chock full of Wonder Woman trade paperbacks and such. Please pass along any of Quincy's favorite things that we can send over to him.

I'll be in San Diego this weekend. I know that you already have a huge support system, and that you'll prolly already be on a plane back east. But if you need someone to talk to, I'm around.

Ditto on the address request. I can see what I can do to have Baen Books send his unit nice large boxes of books and some of the Baen CDs as part of their "Books for Soldiers" program. I know several people involved, so I can easily pass along his address and such, and they will eventually get lots of books and CDs from Baen.
