It is probable that Quincy is being shipped to Iraq on February 27.

Wow...that's stunning. I'm sorry.

A guy I know pretty well from high school joined the Army after school (in 2002) and is now in Afghanistan. He had been there for a couple months and got leave to come home for Thanksgiving, so he brought back a lot of pictures and stuff, of their base and the town they were in. They were fascinating. He didn't really see much combat, I don't think (or he didn't talk about it if he did), as their unit does mostly surveillance. He's still got quite a few months over there, I believe.

They just sent a busload of National Guard from town a couple weeks ago, one of whom I was acquainted with (but haven't talked to in a while).

I know there's not a whole lot we can do, but we'll be here if you need anything...

Not good news - I have my fingers crossed for you both.

Well! That'll be very interesting indeed, mostly because it'll make phone conversations nigh-on impossible, and I'm imagining that even e-mail and LJ will be sporadic. I hope he takes lots of pictures when he can. I'm sure many of us will try to spoil him with care packages :)

Hugs - this is a new wrinkle for your long-distance relationship. You'll make it through this time. The chances of him seeing combat are sorta slim.

He would be a field corpsman.

Don't ask don't tell? What if he told? Or don't they worry about that now that they need as many bodies as possible?

I'm sorry you're both going through this stress.

I don't guess he'd jeopardize his career.

No!!

My step-nephew (~19 y.o.) is heading out to Iraq around March. He volunteered to go, stupid Marine.

We have another nephew (Jim's) over there, somewhere.

Here's hoping they all come home safe.
