Everything old is new again

I'm finding myself feeling nostalgic today for...

Doctor Who!

After reading about some updates of the new series and the new (ninth) Doctor I've got an itch to sit around on a lazy Sunday morning and watch a bunch of episodes :) The new series really looks like it's going to retain the fun of the original series and still be able to bring the character and the franchise into 21st century television. I'm actually looking forward to attending Gallifrey in February to actually get the latest Who news rather than just shill Gaylaxicon. :)

While in the mood I was poking around some websites and was reminded of my favorite villains:

The Cybermen! Dastardly lot - cold, calculating, cunning, ruthless, and (mostly) invulnerable. Plus, they killed Adric, so they can't be all bad. :) I've actually been hungry to see old episodes again but all the TiVo can find is the Fox TV movie with Paul McGann (who made an excellent Doctor).

So, two quizzes sprang to mind:

Poll #404590 The Doctors

Who is your favorite Doctor?

William Hartnell
Patrick Troughton
Jon Pertwee
Tom Baker
Peter Davison
Colin Baker
Sylvester McCoy
Paul McGann
Christopher Eccleston
Other (Richard Hurndall, Peter Cushing, Rowan Atkinson, Richard Grant, Jim Broadbent, Hugh Grant, Joanna Lumley)

For those who don't know, the "other" category are (mostly) everyone who's played the Doctor who wasn't the Doctor - Hurndall played the first Doctor in "The Five Doctors" because Hartnell had passed away, Cushing played the Doctor in the two God-awful movies in the 60's, and Atkinson, Grant, Broadbent, Grant and Lumley all played the Doctor in the comedy special "Doctor Who and the Curse of Fatal Death." ("Oh, it's got three settings!")

And just 'cause I'm a weenie like this (I could just as easily post a poll on what your favorite Bond theme song is):

Poll #404591 Doctor Who Logos

Which was your favorite Doctor Who logo?

(plain text, Hartnell/Troughton years)
(stylized text, Pertwee years + McGann movie)
(diamond design, Pertwee/Baker years)
(neon logo, Baker/Davison/Baker years)
(script/block, McCoy years)
(eye logo, Eccleston years)

Truth is I refer to the McCoy logo as the "Entertainment Tonight" logo, and I think I'm going to call the Eccleston logo the "Eye of Sauron" logo (well, either that or the golden vagina logo). The McGann logo is the one currently used on most Doctor Who merchandise, including the books, and the classic diamond is the most recognizable and arguably the most popular logo, but the new logo was just introduced in October so that should start making the rounds soon.

So, yeah, feeling nostalgic today. :)
