Million Dollar Meme

Memeage:

OK - we all have dreams and joke and such that if we won a million dollars we would quit our jobs, tell our bosses to go take a flying leap, etc.

Assuming that 50% was sucked away in taxes, what would YOU do if you won $1,000,000?

$1,000,000
- 500,000 - taxes

$ 500,000
- 8,000 - pay off debts

$ 492,000
- 25,000 - new car

$ 476,000
- 200,000 - house

$ 276,000
- 150,000 - 6 $25K trust funds for each of my nieces and nephews

$ 126,000
- 10,000 - fabulous vacation for me & Q

$ 116,000
- 5,000 - fun money!

$ 111,000 - INVEST INVEST INVEST!

==========

See, this one is really really hard for someone living in San Diego, since a half million dollars is about what you need to get a really nice house! I figured $200,000 would be a good amount to put down and mortgage out the rest, although wouldn't it be nice to just buy the damn thing outright, being a millionaire and all? Sigh.

Thanks for the nice dream, though, downeastmike!

Re: and yet...
I know. It's scary. And they say the rich/poor gap is decreasing - BAH! I feel positively homeless at times.

Me, my money and I...
It'll get you a nice box next to a tramp in London... it's only worth about £267,865... still, it'd be a really nice box...

If I had £1,000,000:

£1,000,000
-0 - no tax on winnings in the UK :D

£1,000,000
-200 - credit card bill

£999,800
-500,000 - real estate - in a decent area - the housing market here is booming.

£499,800
-99,800 - Invest in arms and drugs companies (where the money is)

£400,000
-100,000 - handout money to scrounging relatives

£300,000 - move to SoCal.

That no tax thing would be quite a coup...

Yeah - the government brought it in in the budget just before the last election - can't think why :D

Ooo, almost forgot about Pennsic investments. Better set aside another $1500 for the pavilion I've always wanted...

With the remaining $500,000?

$300,000 for a house upgrade -- either major renovations to the one we own now, or move up to something a bit larger and more modern. Around here, $300K will buy a nice amount of house

$40,000 for furnishings for the house ... no point in having a nice place if you don't have some nice furniture, decked out media room, etc.

$30,000 for a new car -- probably a Subaru WRX, if I can hide the shame of it still having sucky gas mileage for the size car

$25,000 for travel money -- those business class, round the world tickets don't come cheap!

$20,000 for "friends" trip -- it'd be great to take 20 or so people down for an all-expense-paid trip to someplace like Disney World or Cancun (or perhaps a smaller group to somewhere abroad).

$100,000 for investment -- so I have a nice financial cushion and don't need to worry much about future downtime

$5,000 for an accountant to point out that I've overspent! :)

$50,000 to pay off my car, and buy a new one. If there's any money left over it'll go to "pimping my ride".

$20,000 to buying my own japanese crotch rocket (motorcycle that is), and pay for the lessons to drive it too.

$250,000 to buy a nice condo in University Heights, or Bankers Hill.

$20,000 divided between Mom and Dad.

$10,000 on either cosmetic surgery (to lose the gut, and handles), or a KICKASS personal trainer.

$10,000 for a vacation in Japan.

$2,000 in clothing shopping.

$50,000 to go back to school.

$88,000 in savings and investments.
