Ah, my old D&D days...

Bit of nostalgia for those of us who actually owned the boxed sets way back when:

"How 'Dungeons' changed the world"

Thanks, akirashimaTheaddy!

I still have original dice and pieces of the box set around
Back when a d4 did an actual d4 of damage if you stepped on it

Makes me proud to say I'm still a gamer since 1979.

You've been gaming since the day you were born? ;)

When I was moving I had to pare down a lot of possesions. One of the sets of things to go was DnD 2nd edition and 3rd edition books. Lots and lots of them. 8 sets o' dice. (I kept my favorite as nostalgia.) All sorts of stuff.

I miss gaming but haven't found a group up here I can play with. The groups here are either power power power gamers, or too wrapped up in game design to actually play a game. (In the power gamer group, by the end of the first session I had a singing flying sword, armor of changing, a bag of holding and many other magical goodies far earlier than I should ever imagine, all purchsed at dirt cheap prices.)

Faboo! I don't really RPG much anymore (Myke is trying to get a Champions game together, but I don't know), but D&D is still what fueled my gaming bug, which is stronger than ever these days living in a house full of gamers!

How do you not RPG as much when living in a house full of gamers??

That's definitely one nice thing I have here in Blacksburg -- an active D&D gaming group. We've got a great GM and get to play about every other weekend. The GM actually runs two games every weekend, but he runs two storylines and has a large group of people, so we have to take turns.

Alas, I don't know what happened to my early D&D box set...

I even had the original boxed set. It came in the red box with the players guide, and the dungeon masters guide.

Yes! I had that, too! Came with a set of like 6 yellow solid plastic dice.

Before the red box there was the blue box. before the blue box was the white box with the three original books from 1974. Before the white box you had to buy each book separatly. Before the three books there was Chainmail. I'll get a photo of this stuff if you want next time I've got a digital camera to play with.. and figure out how to u/l a pic on here.

Hey, I'm old to gaming and new to LJ.

Yeah, the blue box... that's the edition I had. I received it as birthday present one year. Little did they know what they were getting me into... :)

Old age and treachery will win out over youth and talent every time.
