Gir!

I hate shopping for cell phones

As I mentioned previously, my cute little Nokia 6590i phone died, likely beyond worthy of repairing (a new battery costs more than a brand new phone, after all). Having been cell-less for almost 4 days sucks (much of the communication between me and Q is text messages, and I miss that - A LOT). So this afternoon I popped over to the two Cingular kiosks to look over my options.

I'd really like to stick with Nokia - I'm already familiar with them, I've got the little chip in my current phone with all my phone numbers in it, I have accessories I can continue to use, etc. - but they don't carry my phone anymore, which sucks, 'cause it was cute with its little champagne color and the Mozart ringtone I bought for it and everything. {mope} So since that seems out of the question (although the Nokia website says Cingular stores still carry it), I looked at all my other choices, and I have quite a few - Motorola, Seimens, etc. And I must admit that I'd always figured if I needed to get a new phone I'd get a flip phone - which, of course, means Nokia doesn't make one yet. Bah.

The sales people (one pushy, one not) shoved a few phones under my nose, but I'm ambivalent. So, I'll let you guys give me some ideas:

Scratch that last entry - looks like my phone has been brought back from the dead!

When I went to the Cingular store in Mira Mesa where I bought my phone they did a cursory once-over but couldn't find anything wrong, and suggested (of course) buying a new phone. I asked if I could get it serviced and they said they didn't do it there but referenced me to PCS Connection which is a Nokia service center. So after work today I took it over, just to see what was wrong with it.

Well don't you know they got it working!

The VERY nice guy (whose name I didn't get - tall Filipino guy with a scar on his right cheek) took it apart and cleaned it (with a freakin' toothbrush no less), and the little fucker started right up. And he didn't even charge me! (I was going to buy another cover for my ear bud but they didn't have any.)

So let me recommend:

PCS Connection
9932 Mercy Road (at the 15)
San Diego, CA 92111
858-549-1860

They're a T-Mobile store, but they also retail for Cingular. They rock!
