The situation on campus has been engaging, to say the least. In the spirit of transparency there's an ongoing community comment page hosted by the college, and it's certainly got a colorful array of opinions.

Also, they've posted pictures of the ship. It really doesn't look so much different from a dorm.

Also, very sad that no kid here probably even gets any of the "Love Boat" references we've been throwing around.

I think the downside is the rooms only have two beds - no desk, for example. Still, they'll probably convert all their lounge areas into study areas instead. Plus, I work in the library, so, you know, come visit and stuff. :)

We are heavily influenced by the St. Mary's River which runs practically right through our campus, so it's actually a pretty "outside the box" kind of idea. Apparently they did similar things in New Orleans after Katrina.

Thanks for the link to the Conversation page. I love how some students thought they should be consulted about the size of their rooms. It's so cute.
While I feel for whichever poor soul in Residential Life has gotten stuck monitoring the responses, it's good that the college is responding as quickly & as thouroghly as they can. It won't soothe every cranky parent or child, but it can help.

Honestly, in the 5 years I've been here, this is a complete 180 from the previous president's way of handling things. It's been transparent, communicative, informative, and timely.

Damn, there are a lot of whiny students and parents on that board. Life happens, if they haven't learned it by now, they need learn to roll with the punches.
