Surviving Mom

Meant to post about the weekend with Mom.

Thursday she drove down and met me at work (took her half as much longer to do it as it does us, but then she's an Old Lady). I took her on a tour and introduced her to some of my friends on campus, and she met my co-workers, including my boss. (I had forewarned them all to say nice things about me, so I have a lot of checks to write.) We were going to eat in the dining hall, but they were setting up for an event so we ended up dropping Q's car off at the mechanic's and then eating at Bob Evans, and then stopped at Giant to pick up a few munchies she needed for the weekend. The house was a mess, of course, but she could get to the bed in the spare bedroom, and that's all that really matters.

Friday I had off, so I took her around shopping. We hit the bookstore, then BJ's. She hadn't been in a while, so we ended up filling her trunk with random stuff she needed. After that we went to K-Mart because she was looking for a new pair of shoes, and I made her try on a few things I thought she'd like. We stopped at Checkers for food, since we always talk about stopping there every time we drive up to see her but there isn't one in her area. When we got back to the house we went to work outside - I cut the lawn and edged and she weeded my border and planted some flowers. We ran across a nest of four baby bunnies which were absolutely fluffy and adorable, but she kept yelping every time one of them hopped away from her.

Saturday we were out and about again, still looking for shoes. We hit Famous Footwear, Marshall's and Ross, but no luck. We stopped at Lowe's and looked at flowers and bushes and outdoor shades, but didn't buy anything. I took her to Olive Garden to eat, which was pretty good. When we got home she whipped me into shape and we cleaned the kitchen, dining room and living room, and prepped stuff to go up into the attic and get put away. (When Q got back he said she was welcome to come visit every weekend.)

Sunday she decided to hit the road right after lunch and was home before 5:00. Meanwhile Q was in Chicago for the weekend (he'd left Wednesday night and he and a friend drove 12 hours straight through and got there Thursday around 8:00 in the morning). He finally got home around 2:00 a.m. Monday (silly me waited up for him, which made for a long day Monday).

Meanwhile this week has been... well, this week. Returned Q's rental car Monday, then stayed late at work so he could go to a party. Tuesday we had to deal with house issues, then pick his car up from the mechanic after work. Last night it was Cici's for dinner, then picked up a few necessities at Walmart. Tonight I'll probably cook, and hopefully they'll let us go early tomorrow for the weekend. Q's working, but Kyan, Sev and Matt may stop over on Sunday (Kyan says he wants to go to Pennsic this year, but Q doesn't think he's going to actually do it). I got a bead on a gaming day in Alexandria on Monday which I may head up to, but we'll see how the weekend goes. Next week I'm only in two days, then taking off Thursday and Friday to head up to Philly for a doll con Q is going to.

So, yeah. Lots going on, I guess. Oh what fun. :P

You have a "Surviving Mom" and I think you know it is a gift. I do not and I am jealous. She is a very organized go getter and hardly old yet, Suspecting I am the old lady here (It's my 50th birthday) She comes to visit and cleans your house and works in the garden. You are not only lucky to have a living Mom but a Mom also who lives and gives! You are blessed.. I think you might already know.
